online business with a soul
The Sacred River Mall concept grew out a collection of ideas, drawn from various experiences with online commerce.
We wanted to provide a strong, spam-free environment, and to foster a spirit of co-operation, and team work. We wanted to build something that could genuinely help the good guys, and the ordinary man or woman. We saw too many people with big dreams, or desires to make a difference to household finances, but who were simply being bounced between scheme after scheme.
We do stress that many people build success in the existing environment, but we felt a need to build something for the rest of us.
Sacred River was in fact going to be a music/audio store, and simply a part of the bigger picture. This soon changed as it became clear that the model we were using could be used by anyone else, for any purpose. The problem was, people would need similar access to web hosting, and experience/confidence with web site creation that we do.
So this is why we make the commitment to building the stores ourselves; this is the biggest barrier for non-technical people, and we want to remove as much of it as possible,
So how did the name come about?
As stated above, the initial concept was a Music Store, and a working title of "Sacred River of Sound" was used. The phrase "Sacred River" comes from a line in Rush’s track "Xanadu"; the words seem to fit somehow.
"To seek the sacred river Alph
To walk the caves of ice
To break my fast on honey dew
And drink the milk of Paradise…."
